About Helen

Helen Russell is a piano and singing teacher from Worcester.

After gaining her physics degree and PGCE from The University of Warwick she started teaching in secondary schools across the West Midlands.

Helen then took a break from teaching.  Now a mum of two lovely little boys she is teaching piano and singing in schools in Worcester. She has taught at Tudor Grange Academy Worcester, Elgar School of Music (community choir), Lyppard Grange Primary School, Christopher Whitehead Language College and Tibberton CofE First School.

Helen is the author of the Kodály based piano method DoReMi Piano.

Helen also runs the hugely successful non-auditioned Express Yourself Pop Choir based at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, Warndon Villages, Worcester.

And if that’s not enough, Helen is also the Chair of Communications for the music education charity, The British Kodály Academy.

Helen enjoys stretching and developing her skills and is committed to continuous professional development.  She has attended residential courses run by Vocal Process (Contemporary Vocal Technique) and the British Kodály Academy (Musicianship, Conducting, Children’s Choirs, Kodaly for Instrumentalists, Singing Games).  She has participated in webinars on vocal technique (Diagnostics, Warm ups, Song interpretation, Exams and Auditions).  Helen attends regular training and mentoring sessions for piano and singing. She is also an avid student of music education pedagogy and technique and constantly reassesses her methods to create the best possible outcomes for her students.

Helen has recently enjoyed the challenge of an online course in Music Production with Berklee College of Music and was awarded a Distinction.  She has now embarked on another online course: The History of Rock by the University of Rochester, USA.

Helen is a member of the Musician’s Union, the European Piano Teachers Association, the ABRSM Teachers’ Forum and the British Kodály Academy
